Hopecore to its fullest. Out with the dystopias and in with hope. Such a human story to its core. The prose, although simple, was very compelling and kept me drawn in. The set-pieces were great, and so were the characters. I was so immersed in the world that I thought Grace was out there in space on Erid. I am also looking forward to the movie.
Stark contrast from 3-body in the sense that this is a character-driven story, not a concept-driven story. Rocky and Grace have to be the best duo of this year for me. The audiobook is the way to go fr.
It was such a unique concept which just blew me away. The twist and turns of this breathtaking plot moved along at breakneck speed. What i found most surprising was the emotion. This was supposed to be the introduction to its main character Galeleo but i felt like I knew the man. I could empathize with him and even show some sympathy towards the math teacher Ishigami(Though towards the end it felt a bit incel-coded). The other characters were also cool. Very Anime type story ngl.
I thought it reminded me of Drishyam but turns out the movie is inspired from the book. Awe inspiring concepts. The Audiobook knocked it out of the park. David Pittu did a fantastic job.
What a fun read. It was a simple read as well. The prose can be a bit boring, the characters are sexist especially the female characters. I don't know if these are the Chinese sensibilities or what. Da Shi is the only character who had a semblance of a personality, rest were just there to move the plot along.
I had big expectations from this thing, but it let me down. Science so advanced it's magic type of beat. The last part about protons just turned me off from reading the sequels. Its a shame too, I was heavily invested in the story. I did not find the character motivations particularly convincing. They just disappeared the main guy's family halfway through and never mentioned them again. Overall, it had as big highs as the lows.
